About

Well a little about myself. My name is Bob McCormack. I have always been into electronics ever since I could remember. I got a degree in electronic engineering and computer technology and now work as a Network Engineer. My parents always loved antiques and have owned several antique shops throughout my life. a Few years ago I ran across an old Zenith radio at an estate auction. This thing was in pitiful shape but I saw potential. It was a 9-S-232 console from 1939 of course I didn't know any of that at the time. I was positioned for the bidding to begin and swore to myself I would never go over 50 bucks for that thing. The bidding started... $100.00 barked out the auctioneer. I sunk thinking I would never get that radio, but no bids. $50.00 then $25.00 still no bids. I looked around thinking what are these people crazy? Don't they see what I saw. Apparently not bidding never started so I shouted out ten bucks. The auctioneer took the bid and started his seemlessly unending plea for more and more, but no more bids. SOLD he hollered $10 dollars I was ecstatic. And so it began. I brought that beast home and took it to my shop and with loving care restored her to showroom condition. My Wife was astonished and the way the radio looked after it was finished. I was proud especially when I found out how much my ten dollar find was really worth. I got the fever and started my hunt buying radios here and there and slowly bringing them back to life. It soon became an obsession of which there is no return. I now have quite a collection of radios that you'll notice are all from the 30's and 40's. This was the heyday of radio and to me the most attractive and best sounding radios came from this era. I primarily collect wood cabinet radios because of their beauty. They easily blend in as a piece of furniture in any decor, which makes my wife happy. I wanted to start this site to share my experience with restoration and collecting as well as offer a store with parts and accessories for the do-it-yourselfer to help you in your restoration project. I offer restoration services with free estimates on your radio. Plus resources for parts and other radio related items. Radio collecting has become a great hobby and a very fulfilling one as well. There is nothing like turning on that radio for the first time after you have spent hours restoring it and hearing a station pop up and knowing that you brought it back from near death. AHHH you too will be truly "Hooked on Radio"
